‘Eye on Wildlife’ is a new collection of work, specifically created for this exhibition by local
artist Emma Jolly, with a focus on her love of wildlife from Scotland and around the world.
Emma has lived in Hawick most of her life. She gained a Degree in Fine Arts at Dundee
University and then she was selected for the Royal Scottish Academy’s New Contemporaries
exhibition. It wasn’t until after university, where she mainly studied photography and film,
that she discovered her love of drawing.
Using mainly pastel pencils for the drawings, Emma tries to make her work realistic, while
still adding her own creativity to the piece. Her main focus when starting a new portrait is
always on the eyes, as she thinks they are the best way to capture the beauty and spirit of
the animals. She likes to do portraits of animals that you wouldn’t normally have a chance
of seeing so close in the wild.
Emma spends her time doing commissions of people’s beloved pets alongside the wildlife
drawings she so enjoys.
Emma Jolly says: ‘I am so excited to be showing work for Live Borders in my hometown’
