HAWICK ARCHAEOLOGICAL SOCIETY LECTURE – “Bastles, Berms and Bumps: Emerging Archaeology in Rulewater”

Roger Curtis will give an illustrated talk entitled “Bastles, Berms and Bumps: Emerging Archaeology in Rulewater”. The talk will outline the work done over the last few years by the Towers of Rule Community Project, describing excavations at Bedrule Castle and elsewhere, as well as several new sites identified in the district. It will consider the types of remains identified and possible purpose as well as options for further investigation and access. Roger Curtis is a chartered building surveyor working for Historic Environment Scotland with an interest in the medieval period. He lives near Bonchester and in his spare time he has been gathering historic and archaeological information in Rulewater for many years. More recently he has been working with the Towers of Rule project on researching and identifying settlements and defended sites in the Hobkirk and Southdean area.
Non-members welcome. A voluntary collection will be taken.
