Hawick conservation area regeneration scheme – standards and detailing in traditional buildings

Traditional buildings form an integral part of many Scottish Towns and yet so many are neglected or repaired in an inappropriate manner. Roger Curtis, Historic Environment Scotland’s Technical Research Manager, will provide an overview of some of the issues that these buildings face and outline the approach that Historic Environment Scotland promote to achieve an appropriate standard of repair.

Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) is a heritage led regeneration project focused on Hawick town centre, offering grant aid towards repair works to traditional buildings, as well as supporting complementary initiatives to increase understanding of the town’s rich heritage and promotion of traditional skills.
