The Journey to Mount Kailash – A talk by Robert Leach
February 16 @ 6:00 pmFree
Writer and theatre director Robert Leach will speak about the journey to western Tibet that inspired his book of the same name.
The Journey to Mount Kailash records an epic voyage across the subcontinent of India, as two people travel to the holy mountain of Kailash in western Tibet, seeking ‘renewal’. Mingling myth, history and contemporary politics with more immediate concrete description, The Journey to Mount Kailash is also a kind of love story, from which poetry itself is born.
‘Poetry, travelogue, diary, love story all unravel for the benefit of the reader like a rich tapestry that charts the encounter with another country; an encounter at once strange and familiar’ – Olga Taxidou, Edinburgh University
Several of Robert’s titles will be available for sale on the night, along with Cornucopia’s own selection of travel writing, including authors such as Patrick Leigh Fermor, Freya Stark, Barnaby Rogerson and Caroline Eden.
