An offbeat teenager becomes pregnant, and finds a pair of apparently perfect adoptive parents for her unborn child. But the situation isn’t as simple as it first appears, and leads to difficult decisions about the future of both mother and child. Ellen Page is marvellous in this sassy, daring and wonderfully entertaining comedy, cutting straight to the bone with scathingly sharp dialogue but also bringing warmth and vulnerability to soften the edges. ‘The Trinity Belles’ from Trinity College of Music, London are visiting Hawick between 8th and 11th April. They will be giving free lunchtime recitals in Beanscene on Tuesday 8th, Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th. On Friday 11th between 4pm and 6pm, there will be short, informal “play together” workshops involving small groups of local musicians. The classes will be overseen by Andrew Sherwood (Professor of Violin at Trinity).

Armed with a fetching superhero costume, Underdog vows to protect the beleaguered citizens of Capitol City and, in particular, one beautiful spaniel named Polly Purebread, from the evil schemes of Barsinister and his henchman Cad.

Daniel Day-Lewis is at his imperious, explosive best as turnof- the-century oilman Daniel Plainview in Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood. Pitting Plainview’s capitalist ambitions against young preacher Eli’s fanatical evangelism, Anderson presents a gripping saga of obsession, corruption and greed, topped off with an audacious finale that more than delivers on his movie’s doom-laden title. Hypnotic, poetic and often downright strange, the remarkable result is every bit as combustible as the black stuff itself.

Contains sexualised nudity and one use of moderate language Cast: Mathieu Amalric, Emmanuelle Seigner, Marie-Josée Croze, Anne Consigny, Patrick Chesnais. The fascinating true story of Jean- Dominique Bauby, a 43-year-old magazine editor who suddenly finds himself a prisoner in his own body following a debilitating stroke. Assisted by a team of tireless professionals, Bauby slowly but surely adjusts to his new situation and even begins working on a book detailing his experiences. The movie – which is endlessly intriguing in terms of its visuals – effectively places the viewer in Bauby’s shoes. An engrossing and emotionally devastating work.

Michel Ocelot / Spain/Italy/Belgium/France 2006 / 1h39m. Contains mild fantasy violence A glorious, Arabian Nights-style fairy tale with stunningly beautiful and vibrant animation. The story follows the lives of two boys, blue-eyed Azur, the son of a French nobleman, and Asmar, the son of his African nurse. The boys are brought up together as brothers but are separated in a cruel twist of fate. Years later they are reunited as adults in a magical quest to rescue a fairy princess who was the subject of their bedtime stories.

A car dealer with a dodgy past, Terry has always avoided majorleague scams. Jack Nicholson plays a corporate bigwig whose horizons are suddenly narrowed by terminal illness. Morgan Freeman co-stars as the broken-down car mechanic who finds himself in the same boat, or as it happens, the same hospital room, where they hatch a plan to live their last days to the fullest. Soon the pair are off skydiving over the American desert and barrelling around a racetrack in vintage cars, in this shamelessly old-fashioned crowd pleaser.

An engrossing and sensual tale of intrigue, romance and betrayal set against the backdrop of a defining moment in history. Two sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious father and uncle to advance the family’s power and status by courting the affections of the King of England. But what began as a bid to help their family develops into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the King.

Never one to miss an opportunity to make a buck, Ratso decides to turn the duckling into a freakshow at the local carnival, but doesn’t bargain on him being quite so endearing...

The critically acclaimed ‘Scocha’ will lead a gathering of the region’s top entertainers when they take to the stage at the Lodge 111 club in Hawick, on Saturday, 26th April to entertain the Turnbull Clan Association and their friends and supporters in a night of Scottish Song & Dance. The stunning line up of entertainers which includes Henry Douglas, Tom Herdman, Tam Knox, Ian Landles, Viv Sharp, Joyce Tinlin, and the Hawick High School Group will guarantee a night of Scottish Song and Dance not to be missed. The event is being held to raise funds for the ‘Turn-the-Bull’ statue which is planned to be sculpted and placed on the civic space at Hawick Heritage Hub during 2009. The evening will be a rare treat for those people who enjoy listening to the best in local music.
