Casa Illusion – Artist in Residence – Giannina Delpino at Cornucopia

Following critical acclaim and exhibitions in Santiago and Valparaiso in Chile, Giannina Delpino will be exhibiting her latest mystical and mysterious paintings at Cornucopia.

“Seeing your place of origin from a distance allows you to appreciate it all the more. The perspective of distance enables you to see more clearly the subtleties and influences that have formed you. For me, now, ‘home’ is on the bridge between two cultures. The concept of bridges is central to these paintings. This between-worlds habitation is never truly defined. It is rootless. For me there is a constant tension between Chile and the UK. Memories from both are intertwined, affecting my cultural identity and sense of place. This in turn exacerbates the sense of transience, where everything dies and renews, underscoring the truth that one’s whole existence is in flux. At the same time bridges connect, and the stories that I have to tell, from both sides, help to demystify and illuminate each other. And it’s these stories that are the main inspiration for the paintings in Casa Illusion.”

ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE: stories, workshop, performance

Gianinna will be artist-in-residence at Cornucopia for two weeks, during which time she will also tell some of the stories behind the paintings at two consecutive evening events on September 3rd and 4th. Then on Sunday 7th September she will be running a Narrative and Illustration workshop, which will be limited to 12 participants. Participants will be invited to bring images/photographs from their childhood to serve as inspiration for drawings and illustrations. Gianinna will also be creating a piece of music during her residency, which she will perform at the end of her stay. Details of prices and times below.
