Heritage in Every Stitch: Fabric of Our Future – New work by Hawick High School Fashion & Textile Technology pupils

5th April 2025 - 3rd November 2025

Monday – Saturday 10:00 – 16:00 (closed Sunday)

Free admission – Donations welcome

The Scottish Borders is renowned for its rich textile heritage, and a new exhibition
celebrates this legacy through the creativity and imagination of Hawick High School pupils,
while giving them the chance to engage in skill-building, design and craftsmanship.
This exhibition showcases colourful textile pictures, bags, cushions, skirts and made-to-
measure tailored jackets – each piece designed and created by the pupils using woven and
knitted fabrics donated by local mills.

Part of the Hawick Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) initiative, which is
delivered by Scottish Borders Council and supported by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust,
the exhibition is a celebration of both the enduring influence of the region’s textile past and
the potential of its future, seen through the creative lens of Hawick’s pupils. Hawick CARS is
a five-year regeneration project funded by Historic Environment Scotland.

Visitors are invited to explore this inspiring display of youthful talent, where history and
innovation meet.

Laura de Beaté, Assistant Curator, said:-
“We are so pleased to be working with Hawick High School on this wonderful exhibition. The
talent of the students is evident, and the range of techniques, skills and creativity has
resulted in a vibrant display of garments, accessories and textile art of which they can all be
very proud”
