The Braid Society 30th Anniversary Exhibition

Monday – Saturday, 10:00 – 16:00 (closed Sunday)

The Braid Society, founded in 1993, celebrates its 30th anniversary with an
exhibition showcasing a stunning array of 2D and 3D techniques made by
their talented members around the world. From Japanese Kumihimo and
Karakumi braiding to Scandinavian narrow band weaving, the exhibition
highlights the rich diversity and creativity within the Society’s community.
There will be the chance to try your hand at Kumihimo braiding for free and
demonstrations of various techniques will be held during the exhibition,
including:-
Kumihimo braiding, Scandinavian narrow band weaving, inkle weaving and tablet
weaving
ply-split braiding, lucetting, finger weaving andlLoop braiding and Icelandic foot
weaving.

The Society’s Chair, Kay Hawkins, says ‘The Braid Society is delighted to
have the opportunity to exhibit its 30th Anniversary exhibition at the
Borders Textile Towerhouse in the final leg of its journey around the UK.
The Society and its members promote the education and practice of the
art and craft of making constructed and embellished braids and narrow
bands, which have played an important role in both historic and
contemporary fashion and garment making all around the world.’
