The Nettle Dress – presented by Films for Change

24th March 2024 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
£5

FILMMAKER DYLAN HOWITT TELLS THE POIGNANT STORY OF TEXTILE ARTIST ALAN BROWN WHO SPENDS SEVEN YEARS MAKING A DRESS BY HAND JUST FROM THE FIBRE OF LOCALLY FORAGED STINGING NETTLES.

After the death of his beloved wife, a man spends seven years crafting a hand-spun dress from foraged nettles. This is ‘hedgerow couture’, the greenest of slow fashion and also medicine.

‘A modern-day fairytale and hymn to the healing power of Nature and slow craft’

We will be joined by Lara Armitage of Birkhill House for conversation after the screening.

Plus: silversmith and textile artist Danielle Ray will bring along her drop spindle to demonstrate and for us to try.

Refreshments included
